Shootin’ The Shoot: BTS with Nina Corpuz

Nina Corpuz, a native of Batac, Ilocos Norte, was in town recently to shoot her news story on ABS-CBN’s TV PATROL World and ANC’s The World Tonight. The LEAD Movement joined her for a nature adventure in Adams, Ilocos Norte. She and her crew, plus her sister Naomi and their cousin Nikko were awesome company. They gamely tried out every exotic dish that was prepared by the Tourism Council of Adams. We went trekking to Inuwayan and Cabacan Falls where they were able to shoot a live snake that suddenly flew from nowhere to the water. She enjoyed the breathtaing 365-degree view of the mountains that nestled the town at the Lovers’ Peak. She drank tapuey, tasted homegrown cherries and braved the Baset Hanging Bridge, the longest and oldest in Ilocos Norte.

EARTH DAY Caravan 2009

The LEAD Movement supported the first environmental caravan to the different northern municipalities, starting from Laoag City to Pagudpud. Aimed at generating environmental awareness, the project was spearheaded by the DENR. Important issues were discussed in between courtesy calls to the town mayors. The Davila Mangroves in Pasuquin, the dry river bed in Pasuquin, the Bulo River in Bangui, the Agua Grande hydro-electric plant in Pagudpud were the stopovers for lectures, discussions and critiques. The day ended with a lunch by the Pasaleng Bay.

Adams was the highlight of the exhibit which was held at the DoT Clamshell I in Intramuros, Manila (December 5-17, 2005). The entrance to the pavillion was a replica of an Adams hanging bridge; crossing the bridge was already an adventure unto itself. The eco-adventure showcase was designed by the talented adopted son of Ilocos Norte, Architect Rex Hofilena. It featured replicas of the La Paz Sand Dunes (complete with real sand), 2 Adams waterfalls, a cave, etc. The LGU of Adams and the LEAD Movement shared a unique booth which displayed the mixed indigenous cultures of the town. The LEAD Movement sponsored a free all-expense vacation trip for 2 to Adams. They also worked for the adventure-packed DoT Region I-produced promotional short film which was shown at the event.

Mt. Linao Exploration

On March 25, 2006, the LEAD Movement organized an exploration climb to Linao Pond (952 m ASL) in Mt. Linao, Adams, Ilocos Norte. Joining them were representatives of the DENR Region I office, PGIN Department of Public Safety, Mon Encinco of PAGCOR, and Joseph Sta. Maria of Panzzian Beach and Mountain Resort.

The trek was an extreme 9-hour ascent. Discovered was a pond, a sanctuary to wild birds, boars and deers.

LEAD Movement members join the Search and Rescue (SAR) Auxiliary Training by the Philippine Air Forces’s 5056th SAR Squadron at the Laoag International Airport in Laoag.
